The Zurich Marató Barcelona opens registration for 2025. The greatest popular athletics event of the Catalan capital will be back next 16th of March, just one month after the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona 2025 (16th of February). Under the slogan Barcelona Hits Different, the Zurich Marató Barcelona aims to be one of the most animated, inclusive and diverse marathons in Europe and to beat, in the 2025 edition, the race’s participation record, set at 20,385 people in 2016.
In this direction, different initiatives will be launched: the main novelty will be, DONAnt Pas, a project to encourage female participation through different actions such as official training sessions of the Zurich Marató Barcelona for women only. In addition, PRO AM will provide female runners on the day of the marathon with a female marathon runner who will be the visible face of the initiative. In fact, for the start-up of this project, three female marathon runners who will run Barcelona’s Marathon in 2025 have participated in the Mad Loop Barcelona, a secret race that this year has been held in Barcelona after having had its first edition last year in Madrid and that consists of running 100 kilometers around the city in relays of up to three runners.
On the other hand, other programs will also be recovered: for the animation points, the Hot Spots initiative, and Marathon Masters to reward the marathon runners who are faithful in Barcelona, as well as the celebration on Saturday before the race of a Breakfast Run and Kids Race.
In 2024, the Zurich Marató Barcelona sold out 20,000 participants, the third-highest number of registrations in the history of the race. It has also achieved the record of international runners (57%) of 109 different nationalities and of female participation, with 5,000 marathoners, who were one out of every four participants. Likewise, in the premiere of the new circuit, the Swiss-Eritrean Abraham Tadesse has set the male record of the race in 02:05:01h, being the 12th best world record of the distance this year.
