The Zurich Marató Barcelona 2025 makes women’s running visible and promotes it with the project ‘DONAnt Pas’.
The initiative consists of two concrete actions: the first, a training session exclusively for women, and the second, the increase in the number of female runners, which will be a record for the competition on 16 March (7 out of a total of 35).
Barcelona will host the 46th edition of the Zurich Marató Barcelona on 16 March, which this year introduces the DONAnt Pas initiative. A project to make women’s running more visible and promote it beyond the event itself, which will once again have a high level of female participation in the next edition.
The Councillor for Sports, David Escudé, recalled that ‘Barcelona is a city committed to women’s sport, and we are demonstrating this in our day-to-day work. In terms of events, we are working hard to give it more visibility and, thus, offer references for the new generations. DONAnt Pas is another example and we are convinced that this is the path we must follow to position our city as a benchmark for women’s running’.
DONAnt Pas was born in mid-May 2024 when three of the runners who will run the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2025 took part in the Mad Loop Barcelona. A secret race that this year was held in Barcelona after having had its first edition in 2023 in Madrid and which consisted of running 100 kilometres around the city in relays of up to three runners. And now, one month before the Barcelona Marathon, it is activating two specific actions to make women’s participation in long-distance competitions more visible and to consolidate the Barcelona Marathon as one of the most inclusive in Europe, as well as to promote the practice of running in general among women:
1. Official women’s training for the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2025
The first action will take place with a women’s training session supported by Pro AM Training and Vercho, the triathlon club that has designed the training plans for the 2025 half and marathon of Barcelona, this Sunday 23 February at the CEM La Mar Marbella, from 08:30 to 11:30 am. A session aimed at all types of runners, both those who want to improve their performance for the Zurich Marató Barcelona and are registered, as if they are not and want to prepare for any other race while learning about their health.
During this activation, there will be a talk on Energy Deficiency Syndrome (RED-S), which explains its impact on athletic performance. There will also be an activation training to boost the body with strength exercises, a class on running technique and progressions to run more efficiently and safely, and a 10km group run with some of the female pacemakers who will also be guiding the participants of the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2025 on 16 March.
The pace of the 10km will be as follows: 45:00 min (4:30 min/km), 48:15 min (4:50 min/km), 50:00 min (4:59 min/km), 55:00 min (5:30 min/km), 59:00 min (5:59 min/km) and 1:04:00 min (6:30 min/km). The training will conclude with a final stretching session for optimal recovery and places are limited to 150 participants.
2. Historic record of female pacemakers in the Zurich Marató Barcelona
For the first time in the 45 editions of this race, the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2025 will have 7 female pacemakers out of a total of 35 pacemakers, the highest number in the history of this race. There will be one for a pace of 4.59min/km (3h30‘), two for 5.20min/km (3h45’), three for 5.41min/km (4h) and two for 6.24min/km (4h30′).
