The Zurich Marató Barcelona 2024 brings back its act of gratitude to the voluntary entities and cheering points

Barcelona’s marathon wants to recognise the performance of its more than 1,300 volunteers from 22 different entities and 27 animation points, where all that the different volunteers’ organizations and animation points contribute to the venue exhibited.

This 2024, the Zurich Marató Barcelona has held the act of gratitude in Torre Jussana to the voluntary entities and the 27 Hot Spots (animation points) that have participated in the 45th edition, Wednesday 10th April, a month after the race. An edition in which the Barcelona’s marathon has released a new route, start and finish line.

1,355 volunteers from up to 22 different entities that have collaborated side by side in the organisation of the most important popular athletics sporting event in the Catalan capital have once again gathered in a meeting that has not been repeated since 2019, due to the pandemic. The great contribution of all the volunteers who work in different tasks of the Barcelona Marathon and who act in the animation points is essential for the good running of the event and for the satisfaction of the runners. In fact, the organisation wanted to materialise the dedication of the volunteers of this last edition in figures.

For the three days of duration of the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2024 (two days of the Runner’s Expo-Expo Sports and the Sunday of the race), These are the most relevant data generated by the volunteer activity and the animation points:
– Delivery of 20,000 race bibs. 
– Delivery of 20,000 runner’s bags. 
– Control of the parallel race, the BreakfastRun by El Pozo Binstar with more than 2,000 participants. 
– Access control and accompanying the 20,000 participants until the start of the race. 
– Distribution of 250,000 bottles of water 
– Distribution of 20.000 litres of Aquarius 
– Distribution of 22,000 kg of fruit 
– Awarding of 20,000 medals 
– Assisting the elite athletes in different tasks 
– Cheering on the participants at 26 different points all over Barcelona 
– Serving runners at the refreshment posts, 12 different points along the course

This year, 22 volunteer entities took part in the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2024: Voluntaris2000, Escola Pia, Secció Esportiva de l’Escola PIa, JODIC, Barcelona voluntària & Corresolidaris, Masques de Sant Andreu & Unió Colomenca d’Atletisme, Badalona Running, CA Cornella, 2G, Abat Oliba, CA Nou Barris, Zurich, La Salle Campus Barcelona, Atlètic Esport i Natura, CE Mediterrani, CN Catalunya, Corredors. cat, CA Running, Voluntaris pel Futur, CAES Picornell, CA Berga.

Voluntaris2000 was the entity that contributed the most people to the Barcelona Marathon this year, with217 volunteers, followed by Badalona Running (110) and JODIC (95). All the associations provide a minimum of 15 volunteers.

In addition, the new Zurich Marató Barcelona 2024 circuit was released with 27 animation points. The best Hot Spot was Penya Runners Espanyol (kilometre 18.5).

Zurich Marató Barcelona and Barcelona’s entities: a long-standing relationship
Together with Barcelona City Council, RPM SPORTS has been organising the Zurich Marató Barcelona since 2006. In these 18 editions, the organisation estimates that more than 27,000 volunteers have taken part in the great Barcelona race and have animated the circuit at more than 600 animation points.

It should be noted that 2016 and 2017, when the two best participation numbers of the race were achieved (20,385 registrations in 2016 and 20,286 in 2017), were also the two editions so far with more volunteers, with 1,900 people volunteering each year respectively. As for the number of cheering points, the 2019 and 2021 editions were the ones with the highest number of cheering points in these 18 years, with 56 cheering stations.
