Garmin is once again the official watch of the Zurich Marató Barcelona
Garmin is once again sponsoring the Zurich Marató de Barcelona in its 45th edition: one of the must-attend events for running enthusiasts. This emblematic race will take place on 10 March, with a new, renovated, more central and faster circuit, and which already has more than 17,000 people registered.
This renewed alliance with Garmin seeks to respond to the mission that both institutions share: helping people to lead an active life, the struggle to overcome new challenges and the promotion of sport at all levels. Garmin’s Forerunner® smartwatches for running, which offer advanced performance functions and will be a great help for training prior to the race, stand out as an allied range of Garmin smartwatches for the event.
A new route for a legendary race
Barcelona is constantly evolving and changing. One of the most recent changes is the works being carried out in Plaza España and Avenida María Cristina. For this reason, after twenty editions, the Marathon will debut on 10 March a new, faster, more urban and monumental route; with the aim of not losing the essence of the city, to have an agile route to achieve the best times for all the runners. At the same time, it is intended to be a lively day for the rest of the visitors and for the citizens.
The new route passes through some fifteen emblematic spots in Barcelona: from the start at Paseo de Gracia to the finish line at the Arc de Triomf, passing through the Monumental, Casa Batlló, Bac de Roda Bridge, Sagrada Familia, Ninot Market, University of Barcelona, Sant Antoni Market, Plaza Cataluña, Columbus Monument, Estación de Francia, Parc de la Ciutadella, Hotel Arts and Parc del Fòrum. In this way, the route has been made flatter and faster than ever before in the history of this race: the accumulated positive difference in altitude has been reduced by more than 30 metres compared to the previous circuit, and the number of curves has been limited to 33, with 4.9 kilometres in the longest straight.
Garmin accompanying all participants
Garmin has been committed for years to supporting all runners by developing a line of watches specially created for this discipline. In particular, the Forerunner® 265, with AMOLED display, includes Garmin tracking features such as VO2 max, performance condition, training effect and more. When training outdoors, athletes can plan their race day strategy using PacePro™ (pace guidance adjusted for selected courses or distances) and run with confidence knowing that SatIQ™ technology and multi-band GPS will provide superior positioning accuracy in even the most challenging environments.
In addition, these watches are designed to track overall wellness 24/7 with Pulse Ox[1] wrist-based sensor, Body Battery™ energy monitoring, advanced sleep monitoring and sleep scoring, stress tracking, and menstrual cycle and pregnancy tracking, among other features.
In addition, the Garmin Coach feature will allow users to send an adaptive training plan to a compatible Garmin watch. With Garmin Coach, they will be able to choose their expert running coach and training goals. They will then receive guidance with a no-cost training plan that includes selected dynamic exercises that are synced to the watch and adjusted to become harder or easier based on the athlete’s performance on the plan.
Garmin will be present at the race with the most advanced running technology, also offering support to the runners at all times. Not only will it be the official watch of the Zurich Marató de Barcelona, with a presence in the start and finish arches, but it will also have a stand at ExpoSports on 8 and 9 March: the most important sports fair in Barcelona, with more than 6,000 m2 where the most important brands in the sector meet with sports fans.
Designed indoors for life outdoors, Garmin products have revolutionised the lives of runners, cyclists, swimmers and athletes of all levels and abilities. Committed to developing technology that helps people stay active and elevate their performance, Garmin believes that every day is an opportunity to innovate and to beat yesterday.
